“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” – Thomas Merton
“I have no fear of making changes, destroying the image, etc., because the painting has a life of its own.” – Jackson Pollock
Mikey Hernandez
Mikey Hernandez was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He graduated the University of Texas at Arlington with Bachelors of Art in History. At a young age, drawing came easily to him. He would draw pictures of his friends and family throughout his elementary, middle school, high school and college years. For years, he wished to paint on canvas, but was too engaged in his career in the merchant services industry. In 2014, he took his first step by taking a few painting classes at Brookhaven College. He was sold for life and now he finds himself painting for fun.
Mikey is inspired to create intricate works that lure you in with the complexities of color, pattern, and movement. Diversity of style is his style. His boundless creativity is too large to confine to just “one style.” Perfection is something Mikey strives for regardless of the “style.” Simple or complex, the end result will speak for itself.
His artistic process involves searching for a balanced and ordered composition using intuitive and gestural brushwork in oil paint. At times, his work is created with no pre-conceived outcome in mind. He much prefers to let intuition and technique guide him to create complex paintings designed to energize and motivate people subconsciously. His work elicits a multitude of emotional and intellectual responses that we, as viewers, must resolve.
He has developed unique techniques over the years and is continuously experimenting and innovating his process to create works with an emphasis on color combinations, blending and motion to capture the essence of time and movement on canvas. He also continues to explore different mediums that will help to bring to life a painting that you will want to connect with and be inspired by every time you look at it.
